Yoga Also Helps Lower High Blood Pressure And Cholesterol

A study proves that Yoga has been proven to lower high blood pressure and cholesterol levels. In addition, Yoga can be done routinely in and out of a heart attack.

The first research of this Yoga is to test benefits of Yoga on atrial fibrillation, an issue which is a major cause of stroke and the most common in the elderly. In addition to halving fibrillation, the study found that Yoga also relieves the symptoms of anxiety and depression associated with the condition.

"These findings are important because many conventional treatment strategies for fibrillation that include invasive procedures or drugs with undesirable side effects," said Dr. Dhanunjaya Lakkireddy, a professor at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, who led the study.

He presented his findings at the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology which has been held in New Orleans. The study involving 49 patients with heart rhythm disorders that do not have physical limitations and no previous experience with Yoga.

Offered through Reuters, they examined through an irregular heart rate measured during the past six months by researchers at the hospital.

During the first three months, the patient is allowed to participate in physical activity that they like. For the remaining three months, they lead a Yoga program that involves yoga postures, breathing exercises, meditation and relaxation.

Forty-five-minute yoga sessions with certified professionals are held three times each week, and patients are encouraged to practice Yoga daily exercise at home. On average, the volunteers who follow Yoga can be irregular heart rate minimize in the half, while also significantly reducing the score of depression and anxiety and improve the score in physical function, general health, vitality, social functioning and mental health.
