Some people often take many hours to be able to sleep soundly. In people with insomnia, it could be time for much longer. Fortunately a study found there is a simple method to reduce the tension and get people fast asleep slumbering.
The method that is carried out for 10 minutes is designed do before going to bed. Practice by focusing on a calm and fun like the beach or the lake surrounded by high trees. After that, breathe in slowly.
"This technique is based on previous research that suggests that stress can negatively affect sleep. We know there are many risk factors for heart disease such as smoking, diabetes and high cholesterol. But little is understood about the stress, "said Dr. Arn Eliasson, a consultant at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center
This research will be presented in the meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians and showed that this technique reduces the time it takes to fall asleep, can improve the quality of sleep and reducing fatigue.
To formulate this method, the researcher involves 135 men and 222 women with an average age of 56 years. A small percentage of the participants suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is a severe anxiety disorder that appears after witnessing traumatic events.
The participants are asked to fill out a questionnaire consisting of 14 questions to measure your stress level. Participants were also asked to fill out a survey about the quality of sleep and was asked how long his sleep, sleep disorders, experienced the use of sleeping pills as well as how often feel tiredness during the day.
Participants were then asked to attend a program called ' Tension Tamer ' or tension Tamer through workshops for 30 minutes, then followed four times during a 30-minute visit with a specialist to practice stress management techniques stress reliever. After completing the program, participants are asked to follow the survey again.
The results showed that as much as 65 percent of participants admitted to stress reduced by 6.6 points. But on the other hand, as many as 34 percent of participants admitted to stress even worsening of 4.6 points. The participants are reduced by stress, there is improvement of the quality of sleep, the less time it takes to fall asleep and a decreased sense of fatigue.
"This is not a new technique. Stress reduction therapy always acted to help people fall asleep. Reducing stress in any way will obviously help, but the most important thing is to learn why people are having a hard time sleeping, "said Dr. Aparajitha Verma, Medical Director of the Methodist Hospital Comprehensive Sleep Disorders Program.
Verma explained that this technique can indeed help the slumbering sleep quickly, but will not guarantee can get good sleep quality. He suggested to relax before going to bed, solve the problem of bullying and turn off everything that can stimulate awareness or make up.
